From the private collection of a prominent Worcester, MA couple.
The tattooed man is Shi Jin, one of the 108 bandit heroes of the "The Water Margin", a 13th c. Chinese novel translated into Japanese in the beginning of the 19th c., titled Suikoden. His tattoo is a pattern of nine dragons, hence his nickname Kumonryu, "Nine Dragons".
