Howard Johnson opened his first Restaurant in 1925 in Quincy, Massachusetts. By 1954, there were 400 franchised Howard Johnson's restaurants in 32 states. In the 1960's and 70's it had become the largest chain in America with more than 1,000 locations known by their orange roofs. The last restaurant, in Lake George, New York, closed in 2022. Johnson was famous for his 28 flavors of ice cream recipe, which I can personally attest to as being fantastic.
