NEW YORK 3-PIECE COIN SILVER TEA SERVICE
c. 1805-09, marked G. FORBES, teapot with figural lioness finial, open sugar and creamer with griffin handles; leaf border; paw feet; monogram LG; 53.3 troy oz. total
William Garret Forbes (1751-1840), and his brother Abraham founded the Forbes Family of Silversmiths in NYC around 1785. Three of his sons, and his nephew Garret were also silversmiths. Note: Gilbert Forbes, a brother of William, was involved in a plot to assassinate George Washington in 1776.
