The Favorite is associated with Longfellow's poem 'The Wreck of the Hesperus, telling of the 1839 Blizzard when more than 50 vessels were lost at sea off the North Shore coast of Massachusetts. The ship in Longfellow's poem is in reality the Favorite, which sank on the rock called Norman's Woe off the coast of Gloucester with all hands lost. In truth, the Hespereus had made its way safely to Boston Harbor,
