Attached verso is a typed note; " Provenance: In the early summer of either 1946 or 1947 I obtained it, here in Wellfleet, from Frank Perls (who had recently married a girl I knew, and was visiting on the Cape) in exchange for a painting of mine. Frank Perls, who later became a well-known art dealer in California, was the brother of Claus Perls, of the New York Perls Gallery, and the son of an important dealer in Europe before World War 2. He told me that his father had been given a number of unsigned etching proofs by Picasso and this was one of them" Note signed by owner and dated 20 November 1976.
