Wright and Ditson (founded in 1871) was purchased by Spaulding in 1891.
Napoleon Lajoie, of the Cleveland Naps, won the Triple Crown in 1901 and five batting crowns from 1901 through 1905. In the early 20th c., Wright and Ditson, a sports equipment maker in Boston, contracted with Lajoie to put his name on the bat.;
