(sight); floating mount; matted, framed under plexi 17 by 20 in.; along with a pair of plaster hand sculptures, approx. 3 by 3 in.; mounted on a rhombus-shaped plinth 4 by 7 by 4.5 in.; also, a note from the artist to his friend "Dear Albert (Szabo) I hope you like this playful base for the hands/ I wish you health and a merry Christmas / tino";

Provenance: Estate of Professor Albert and Brenda Szabo, friends of the artist.
Born in Orani, Italy, Nivola was a respected sculptor, painter, and educator. Fleeing fascist Italy, he moved to the United States in 1939 with his wife Ruth Guggenheim. He participated in the anti-fascist Giustizia e Libertà movement and was appointed director of the Design Workshop at Harvard University in 1954.
