SET OF (4) ENGLISH GEORGIAN SILVER COVERED ENTREE DISHES, RUNDELL
rectangular-form; hallmarked on cover, base and twist-lock handle; lids engraved with Royal coat of arms of crowned lion and unicorn with the mottos of the British monarchs DIEU ET MON DROIT and the Royal Garter HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE; also marked: RUNDELL BRIDGE & RUNDELL AURIFICES REGIS LONDINI FECERANT 12" by 8"; 279 total troy oz.
In 1787, Phillip Rundell (1746-1827) and his partner John Bridge (c. 1755-1834) founded the firm Rundell & Bridge of goldsmiths and jewellers. When Phillip's nephew became a partner in 1804 the firm name changed to Rundell, Bridge & Rundell and continued to be call thusly until 1834 when John Bridge died. The firm was appointed as one of the goldsmiths and jewellers to the king in 1797 and Principal Royal Goldsmiths & Jewellers in 1804, The firm held the Royal Warrant until 1843.
