16TH C.-STYLE KNIGHT'S FULL SUIT OF STEEL ARMOR
c. 1860-80, the blackened steel helmet French or Italian etched with Renaissance-style foliate decoration; the polished steel body is most likely British in a 1515/1525 style, Gothic-style leg armor; 72" tall incl. standing on a black painted wood plinth 9"h; 18"sq.
From the estate of a Massachusetts gentleman's arms collection.
This suit was conserved in the 1990's at the Armor Workshop at New York City Metropolitan Museum of Art by the museum's Armorer Robert Carroll.
Helmet and suit are married, of the same period.
