DIMES BENCHMADE CHIPPENDALE-STYLE CORNER CUPBOARD

Douglas R. Dimes (d. 2022) made his first Windsor chair in 1964 in Epping, New Hampshire. In 1976 Independence Hall in Philadelphia commissioned him reproduce Windsor chairs. In 1980 he was commissioned by the Smithsonian to reproduce American colonial furniture to display in the museum. He also made furniture for Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts. In 1989, his son, Douglas P. joins the company and they start making the Benchmark Collection featuring tiger maple chests and beds. In 1990 the company became a licensed manufacturer for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. After great success and expansion, Douglas P. reduces the size of the company.
