ORNATE SPANISH COLONIAL SILVER BASE (PEANA)
Mexican marks incl. assayers zig-zag mark; Gothic-style, overall repousse, platform with four vegetal scrolling supports terminating with bells; round pedestal base; 9"h; 9" maximum diam.; 61.5 troy oz.; 1916 gr.
See: "La Plateria del Museo Franz Mayer, Obras Escogidas" pp. 176-1777 for a similar silver base supporting a Virgin figure dated to 1742.
This piece is stylistically similar to hanging lamps of the the early 18th c.
