SPANISH COLONIAL LADIES PORTABLE WRITING DESK (ESCRIBANIA)
prob. Peru, 1700-1800; elaborate overall marquetry/taracea work with scrolling foliate, bird and animal motifs; slanted, hinged lid; the interior fitted with three inlaid drawers over four, the inside of lid also with conforming bird inlay; an inlaid front panel drops down revealing a drawer; 12 "h; 16"w; 6"d
Collector's note: These motifs were drawn from the Hispano-Moresque tradition by furniture craftsmen from Peru, Alto Peru and Mexico during the 16th and 17th centuries.
