PAIR FIGURAL STAINED GLASS WINDOW PANELS
late 19th c., attrib. William Morris, each with a Pre-Raphaelite female figure, in wood window frames; 34.5 by 17 in. total; glass 29.5 by 13.75 in.
Inscriptions read:
CEASE NOT TO LEARN UNTIL THOU CEASE TO LIVE (spider crack in hand extending down through book to crossbar, see photo); the other PLAY ON AND GIVE ME SURFEIT (spider crack in word 'Play')
In 1861 William Morris established Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. producing fashionable home furnishings in the Arts and Crafts style, including stained glass windows.
Both with hinge to open left; condition in text.
