THE STORER FAMILY BOSTON CHIPPENDALE BLOCK-FRONT SECRETARY
c. 1770, Santo Domingo mahogany, good color; three parts, flat molded top above pair of glazed doors with candle slides; the unusual central part with fall-front lid having pull-out writing slide which also supports the lid, the interior fitted with compartments; the base part has four graduated. block-front drawers with original batwing brass on ogee feet; 89" h; case 39"w; 23"d; 24"d w/blocks

Ebenezer Storer, Jr. (1738-1807) was a successful cloth merchant who owned a sumptuously furnished house on Sudbury Street. Amelia Peabody (1890-1984) was a noted Boston sculptress and patron of the arts. She was the only child of banker Frank E. Peabody. Her mother was Gertrude Eaton.
