This portrait and the following lots 69-72, were purchased by Bill's partner, Madeleine Fisher around 1969 from a descendent of the Spooner family in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Several were mounted as one (see photo). The first Spooner in Plymouth was William who died in 1684. These portraits were possibly done by an African American portrait artist. (See notes with lot 69)
