(on 3) FRAMED OVAL WAX AGNUS DEI
oval wreath of straw-work, silver metallic thread, and pearls centering a wax lamb, on reverse is wax image of saint and angel, 10 by 8" incl. ebonzied oval frame; another with lamb, Virgin Mary to reverse, image 6.5 by 5 in; in rectangular gilt frame 13.5 by 12 in. (darkened color to wax with some wear around the edges); a small oval ebonized frame, the was relief of lamb and reverse very worn, 5.5 by 4.5 (very worn/ hard to see the impression)
These artifacts were made by melting the wax of the previous year's Easter candles from churches in Rome. Chrism oil was added to the cauldron of melting wax. The pope blessed the disks that were then given to people to be used as sacramentals.
