New York, three-parts, mirrored center cabinet with inset onyx top above two floral inlaid blind doors flanked by cabinets with glass doors with floral etching; a short drawer below with fern inlay; stamped under the onyx STORE /67696; 70.5"h; 59.5"w; 16.5"d
Although its manufacture can"t be exactly pin-pointed, this is a model offered by New York's leading late 19th c. cabinetmakers. Both Portier and Stymus and Herter Bros. firms used stenciled numbers. Herter also used the word "STORE" which refers to either the piece was to be displayed in the showroom, or to be placed in storage, or a specified work done for individual clients.
Two inset wood panels above cabinets replaced, probably originally matched center stone.
