These copies from the originals were commissioned by the family in the late 19th c. which have remained in the family to this time.
William Knox and Susanna Stuart Fitzhugh Knox of Virginia (married in 1767)
30 by 25 in; framed 36 by 31 in.
The originals were sold at Sloan's Auction, NYC, The Collection of Irvin and Anita Schorsch, September 20, 1979, lot 2152.
Hesselius painted six portraits of the Fitzhugh family, one of the First Families of Virginia.
Man has tear upper left in background.
