In the 1990's the Payson/Whitney family decided to sell their estate in Falmouth, Maine. The purchaser of the weathervane had been the estate manager there for 14 years. It was originally purchased and installed on the carriage house by the family in the early 1930's. One of the family members on the Whitney side was the co-founder and majority owner of baseball's New York Mets. She was the first woman to own a major league team in North America without inheriting it.
