PAIR OF MASSACHUSETTS COMB-BACK WINDSOR ARMCHAIRS
c. 1775, old paint, 10-spindle comb, knuckle arms, turned splayed legs joined by H-stretcher; back 45.5"h, saddle seat 17.5"h
From the home of a major, long-time collector of Americana in the Boston area.
Note of bottom: "Dec. 20, 1976...Item 7. Windsor high fan back orig dark paint c. 1775. Gift to my grandson James W. Long from James....Trust 4-5-1974 Grantor"
These chairs came from the collection of Mr. and Mrs. James Keene of Birmingham, Michigan, longtime clients of Israel Sack, Jess Pavey, et al. Their collection was sold in a single owner sale at Sothebys in 1997. As collectors, their discriminating approach was described as the "Keene Eye".
Age appropriate wear to paint from use.
