RHODE ISLAND WINDSOR BRACE-BACK, FAN-BACK SIDECHAIR
18th c., paint appears original, 8-spindles, unusual boldly shaped crest, turned splayed legs joined by H-stretcher, back 36"h; seat 15"w; 17.5 seat height
An identical chair was owned by Americana dealers David Schorsch and Eileen Smiles of Woodbury Ct. An article in the Newtown Bee from the 1980's: "The braced-back Windsor sidechair from coastal Connecticut or Rhode Island is one of the only three known. Schorsch called it a masterpiece and priced it at $75,000."
From an historic Massachusetts home completely furnished and decorated with period furniture and accessories.
