13 stars on the American flag went from 1777-1795. The Cowpens flag met the requirements of the Flag Resolution of 1777. Similar to the Betsey Ross flag the 13 white starts are arranged in a circle on a blue field, but here this Maryland flag has the 13th star in the center.Alledgedly, it was carried by William Batchelor of the 3rd Maryland Regiment into the Battle of Cowpens in South Carolina on January 17, 1781.
