American or English, c. 1810-20, overall ornate applied carving, crest of eagle with out-spread wings, a pair of candlearms to each side, one pair with prisms, acanthus leaf carving below; the prism dangling from the eagle's beak came with the mirror, 54"h; body 30"d
Prov.: According to family tradition: John Van Wyck (1798-1882) (the Wyck's were one of the Dutch founding families of New York. The homestead in Duchess County is now a museum.); son, Jeffrey Van Wyck (1822-1888; daughter, Anna Gertrude Van Wyck (1901-1996); daughter, Gertrude Vanderveer (1901-1996); Christie's New York, May 2006, lot 243 to the present Providence, Rhode Island owner.
