Upon her recent death, the Duchess of Devonshire's personal belongings were sold at auction in England. She was the sister-in-law of Kathleen Kennedy, known as "Kick", the favorite sister of JFK. Kathleen married the eldest son of the Duke of Devonshire who would have been the future Duke, but several months after the marriage, he was killed by a German sniper in Belgium during WW2. His brother then became the next Duke after their father's death. Kathleen, and her married lover, died a few years later in a plane crash in France. Her possessions remained at Chatsworth House, the seat of the Cavendish family and the Dukes of Devonshire. It is believed that this chest was part of Kathleen's possessions left to the Duchess after her death. Kathleen's parents, Joe and Rose Kennedy, opposed the marriage to the Duke, as he was Protestant and Kathleen Catholic. They refused to attend her wedding at the town hall in Chelsea, London. Kathleen's older brother Joe was the only Kennedy who attended her wedding.
