Family lore tells that the sitter is the wife of Captain Sheffield.
From the collection of a Gloucester, Massachusetts gentleman.
Area in chest where there appears to be a repair or inpaint; also a speck of paint loss in this area. Since canvas is laid down, cannot be view from the reverse (see photo).
