Wolff was one of the pioneers of Tonalism a style which emerged in America in the 1880's. It was derived from the French Barbizon sytle. It was distinguished by the use of overall closely related colors, favoring cool palettes, often misty, aiming to inspire calm contemplation. James McNeill Whistler and George Innes were Tonalist are associated with this style.
Needs cleaning; scattered craquelure.
