Schaare, o/b, 23.5 by 13.5 in. (sight); matted, framed under glass, 31 by 21 in

In the 1950's Schaare was painting paperback covers including Westerns. The art was not returned to him and he was "sure the originals were sold in Mexico or Europe" for more than the $350 he received. Schaare's emphasis in painting was men "caught in the midst of trouble...My objective is to capture the drama in the lives of those who shaped the Old West. My focus spotlights crucial situations in which split-second decisions, sound judgment, and decisive action were vital..."
