Born in Adams, MA, Golden is acclaimed for his sporting and wildlife illustrations. A graduate of the Boston Museum School of Art in 1939, he was considered a "macho Renaissance man" by anyone who knew him. His illustrations appeared in The Saturday Evening Post, Sports Illustrated, Gray's Sporting, Sports Afield, and more. Golden himself preferred to be known for his plein-aire paintings, rather than having his work labeled as illustration.
