SPANISH COLONIAL ARMORIAL TEXTILE
Mexico, 18th c., arms of Castile and Leon, shield-form with lions and castle turrets, metallic and silk thread on red silk, textile measures 25.5" by 16.5"; mounted on acid-free board, framed under glass, total incl. frame 30.5" by 22.5"
Ferdinand III first used these arms in the 12th c. These arms appeared on much of the coinage and elsewhere during the Spanish Colonial era until 1821.
