SPANISH COLONIAL-STYLE GILT SILVER EWER (JARRO DE PICO)
19th c., possibly Spanish, pointed spout with masque, elaborate reversed-E curved handle,
8.5"h; 8"w; 25.1 troy oz.
Originally in the 16th c., the jarro de pico was used to wash hands before and after meals. As there was still no custom of using cutlery, food was eaten with their hands.
Gilding shows minor wear in spots from use.
