The Capitania de Guatemala consisted of a large area incl. the modern countries of Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rico, etc.
Collector's note: This was an important silver mining region. By the time this casket was produced, the area was no longer as important for its silver production. Even so, there were still two silversmiths remaining, Marcelino Zapata and Juan Antonio Batres.
