Katayama, born in Osaka, Japan, was a long-time Professor Emeritus of Design and from 1990-1995 was Director of The Carpenter Center for Visual Arts, designed by Le Corbusier, at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA.
He was invited to The Carpenter Center for Visual Arts at Harvard University in 1966 and he has since remained in Boston.
