Prov. Captain David Cushman, Jr. (1807-1878) China Trade clipper ship captain
Captain Cushman collected items from his voyages to China, Japan and the South Seas between 1840 and 1860. He married the widow Mary W. Sampson in 1841.
Descended from Robert Cushman, who was one of the Pilgrims who was to come in the Mayflower (1620) when that ship was compelled to put back, and gave up his place to others, but followed in the ship "Fortune" 10 of November. Robert Cushman returned to England leaving his son Thomas, believed to be around 11 years of age, in the care of Gov. Bradford of Plymouth County. Thomas (d. 1691) was to become the Ruling Elder of the Church in Plymouth, MA. Captain David's father, grand and great grandfather lived in Duxbury, MA. The Cushman family home still remains.
