ITALIAN CAST IRON PARADE SHIELD, HENRY II
19th c. copy of the shield of Henry II of France (1519-1559) depicting a battle scene surrounded by scrollwork and vignettes, 24" by 17"
This copy was made in Italy of the original shield on display at the Royal Armory in Turin, Italy.
Henry II died at the age of forty in a jousting tournament. Struck in the helmet, a shield did him no good.
