This and the next lot from a Boston home.
Boston born, Weems studied at the Boston Museum School and among her mentors was John Singer Sargeant and Ann Hyatt Hungtington. In 1965 Weems donated her collection of animal sculptures to the Boston Museum of Science in which 30 pieces are on display, the largest collection of Weems' work in the world. Her larger works on public display include the famous life-sized rhinoceros which stands outside Harvard University's Biological Laboratories; the bronze
Dolphins of the Sea at the New England Aquarium in Boston; and the fountain at the Boston Esplanade.
