This lion, carved from extremely dense wood, was fitted to be the standard bearer for the silver banner in the previous lot. This ensemble most likely belonged to a
cofradia, a church lay fraternity usually presided over by a priest.
Ex. the collection of a Connecticut gentleman and his wife who resided in Latin America for many years beginning in the early 1960's.
Hole where banner pole was inserted now has dowel to re-enforce pole; minor losses.
