Lot 96 : SPANISH COLONIAL SILVER BANNER (GONFALON)

SPANISH COLONIAL SILVER BANNER (GONFALON)
Mexico, 1780-1830
chased silver banner with the Greek symbol for Christ "IHS", topped by the Christ child bearing a banner, Sacred Heart below, banner measures 16" by 16"; mounted on silver encased wood pole pole, the total h is 48"; also with an additional 32" extension pole, used for parading the banner (total 81")
The next lot, a carved lion, was fitted to be the standard bearer for this banner. This ensemble most likely belonged to a
cofradia, a church lay co-fraternity.
Ex. the collection of a Connecticut gentleman and his wife who resided in Latin America for many years beginning in the early 1960's.
