EXCEPTIONAL SPANISH COLONIAL INLAID TABERNACLE
18th c., Hispano-Filipino, cylindrical-form, vine and bird inlaid domed top capped with a silver cross on orb; the pair of doors having an inlaid ivory figure holding an urn with a flowering plant with two birds; the reverse with conforming vine and bird inlay. The interior, overall fitted with ornate chased silver work incl. pillars, angels, and flowering urn, encases five ivory figures, two saints to each door, the central figure the Immaculate Virgin on a crescent moon, mounted on a silver plinth. Silver feet, latch, and hinges, total height 20.5"; Mary 7.5" not incl. removable silver crown; saints, 3.5"
Ex. the collection of a Connecticut gentleman and his wife who resided in Latin America for many years beginning in the early 1960's.
Two metal hinges later added to doors for strength.
