LARGE TIBETAN SILVERED COPPER CONCH SHELL HORN
19th c., finely detailed chased silver work, with inset turquoise and coral cabachons,
The conch shell itself, with applied dragons, with etched line decoration, 28"long.
Purchased in India from a Maharaja's palace (now a hotel).
The conch shell is one of the eight auspicious symbols in Buddhism. These horns, one of the earlier forms of wind instruments, were used to make sound offerings in monastic rituals.
