Four generations of the Montiel family produced majolica in Antigua during the 19th and early 20th centuries. For similar example, see Marion Oettinger's
Folk Art of Spain and the Americas. This type of bowl is frequently referred to as a Cofradia bowl, since they were used by the church co-fraternity for festive occasions.
