RUSSIAN FABERGE SILVER BEAR
late 19th c., maker: Julius Rappoport (b. 1864), St. Petersburg
with ruby eyes, bottom of foot hallmark with townmark and
88, and I.P.

From the inherited collection of a Providence, RI gentleman.
A Russian silversmith trained in Berlin, Rappoport opened his own workshop in St. Petersburg in 1883, and later moved to Moscow as a master craftsman for Faberge (one of the few worker's there of Jewish origin). He was one of four "workmasters" from 1886 to 1908. He often executed works for the Imperial Family.
