Sebastien Erard (Strasbourg/France, 1752-1831) came to Paris in 1768 when he was 16 years old. Establishing a company there, he left revolutionary Paris in 1792 for London and established a second shop on Great Marlborough St. where he concentrated on harps. In 1794 he is acknowledged as the first-ever British patent for a harp. This harp is a late production of the Paris factory and was designed by Erard's nephew, Pierre.
