ITALIAN RENAISSANCE BRASS CISTERN
Venice, engraved medallion with portrait labeled PASQUALE CICOGNA; armorial crest to other side, with overall engraved scrolling leaf decoration, ram's head and ring handles, applied paw feet, 8.75"h; 10.5"diam.
Pasquale Cicogna was the Doge of Venice from 1585 to 1595. Among other things, he converted the Rialto Bridge over the Grand Canal from wood to stone. He chose the design of Antonio da Ponte over the designs submitted by Michelangelo.
