the front and sides with carved pinwheels, the angles brass bound, side rope handles,
monogram
M to front; the interior lid and sides with abundant applied carved and painted angels, mermaids, swallows, flags, fish, urns, ancient Roman heroes, etc. Also five mounted family photographs incl. a bearded military man and two young women. A carved family history reads: ...FIGLIO DI STEFANO PUCCI E DI PALMI MARIANNA NATO LI 20 NOVENBER...and in applied letters PUCCI -1878 - MAMANDO (?) these flanked by grid of six compartments with more carved figures and lettering.

Fanciful, whimsical, and elaborate, this box portrays, with colorful images, symbols and obscure representations, the story of a first generation Italian immigrant to America. It was most likely created for the maker's bride, Marianna.
