PAIR OF FRENCH FIREGILT BRONZE AND MARBLE PEDESTALS
Paris, 19th c., white marble top supported on three bronze cabriole legs mounted with bronze ram heads and ending in a hoof foot, on a rouge marble base with ormolu mounts, 36.5"h; marble 16"diam.
Part of the original lavish decorations of Boston's Keith Memorial Theatre at 539 Washington St., a vaudeville circuit palace whose gala opening in 1928 was attended by, among others, Al Jolson and George M. Cohan. The theater was later sold to become RKO-Keith Theatre. It is now the home of the Boston Opera. The pedestals descended through the family of one of the RKO Theatre's owners.
One missing bronze foot replaced with a wooden replica of the same color and profile. Each has chip to narrow layer of marble on apron.
