Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte, Napoleon III, was the nephew of Napoleon I. He was elected the first president of the French Republic in 1848. As a result of a coup he initiated in 1851, he became the ruler of the Second French Empire as Emperor until 1870. He was the last monarch of France.
