Prov.: The estate of William Baxter, a well-respected antiques dealer, first on Charles St. in Boston, then later Cape Cod where he died in 2002 at the age of 80. He was known as "a real gentleman".
Mays, born in Providence, Rhode Island, graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1941. He was a past President and Director Emeritus of the Providence Art Club. Because of his efforts resulting in a major restoration of the historic property, the main gallery there is named in his honor. He died in Coventry RI at his farm estate which is now the Maxwell Mays Wildlife Refuge. You may have seen his work on the cover of Yankee Magazine.
