Southern German or Northern Italian,
a fully articulated recumbent skeleton, snakes appearing here and there; the date 1406 carved on rock. Possibly carved as a centennial remembrance of the death of Pope Innocent VII, last of the Avignon popes, who died in Rome on November 6, 1406.
Remains of paper collection seal. Mounted on 19th c. oak base.

Some bone parts missing. Notch carved at a later date to accommodate the Christo Morto.
