(folio with normal wear to edges and corners, volume in very good condition)
Iowa born Bertha Lum was one of the 'Japanizing artists' who helped make the art of Asian wood block printing popular in the West. She studied at the Chicago Institute of Art from 1895-1900. Visiting Japan on her honeymoon, she became entranced in the art of woodblock printing, and in 1907 apprenticed there with Japanese craftsmen. She was a contemporary of similar Western artists Paul Jacoulet and Katharine Jowett.
