LARGE PAIR OF FRENCH 'SEVRES' JEWELLED PORTRAIT PORCELAIN URNS
19th c., blue Sevres mark on bottom
cobalt blue ground, coronet tops, drum-shaped with fluted neck with gilt garland swags, each with 12 painted portrait medallions, one of Louis XIV and women of his court; the other with Louis XV and his courtly women, all identified with gilt lettering, on beaded round base, 21"h
Molded after the 18th c. Sevres neoclassical production of porcelains in the Greek taste (goût grec).
Condition: minor chips; on one, near the top of the vase, one Greek key pattern has old damage and repair; the other, one gilded swag appears to have some restoration; balls at top appear to be re-attached
